The 2nd Annual VFW OctoberFest turned out to be a good one even though at times it got a bit chilly. There was hot food on the grill and plenty of beer for everyone to enjoy during the day. The competition was highly competitive throughout the day with some of the best local players and out of area players participating in the event. There were many "Instant Classic" matches in this tournament. The finals came down to Jack Stagge / Darrin Hill vs. Charlie / Noel True. Stagge and Hill pulled out a tough match over the True Boys to take the title of the 2nd Annual OctoberFest. Charlie and Noel True had to defeat Doug Darnell and Adam Bow to get to the finals. Doug and Adam have been playing good as a team lately. On September 27th, they defeated Randy Atha and Matt Guy in the Hooters "Bags and Babes" Grand Finalewww.hooterscornhole.com to finish in the money. Doug and Adam also was involved in an "Instant Classic" when they found themselves down 19-0 in the game that would guarantee them at least a share of the purse. Their opponent was Anthony Hash and Mark Smothers who were cruising right along went I glanced at the score tower. Darnel / Bow caught fire and Smothers / Hash cooled down a bit over the next few frames. In a miraculous comeback, Bow / Darnell defeated Hash / Smothers 21-19 to secure themselves a share of the purse. This division featured some great players and teams. One of the hot topics of the day was an 11 year old kid named Derek King. Derek and his partner Kyle Treadway defeated Bow and Darnell in the winners bracket. King shows major promise as someone to be reckon with in the immediate future. Kings shows maturity while pitchin' and showed no signs of getting shook during matches. Overall, the 2nd Annual OctoberFest was a huge success and we can't wait to do it all over again next year!
I would like to thank all the players that participated in the event. I have told many people that I have met some of the best people in the world at my cornhole events and other events as well. You guys do a great job in keeping the game and sport going. ACO Louisville is motivated by your passion for cornhole and we hope to see you all in the near future!

October 10, 2009 - SINGLES DIVISION
Dale Smith finds his game in the Singles Division and defeats Kevin Pinkerton in the finals
The 2nd Annual VFW OctoberFest Singles Division turned out to be highly competitive with great matchups and some upsets. When it was all said and done the "man in yellow", Dale Smith caught fire and pulled out the championship over an always tough out, Kevin Pinkerton. Kevin forced Dale into game 3 in the finals, but just came up short. As the night approached us and the parking lot lights started to come on both players were forced to make adjustments. The bags weren't sliding and the hole became more difficult to see with every pitch. Both players were making miraculous airmail shots throughout the final game! Dale Smith overcame a poor doubles performance and turned it on in the Singles Division. Third Place went to the reigning "World Cornhole Champion", Jack Stagge. Jack met Keith Blair from Louisville, KY in the third round of the tournament and was upset by him in two straight games. Keith has always had the potential to play with all of the "heavy hitters" in the cornhole world, but this would be considered one of his most significant wins in his career. The gritty, tough Jack Stagge battled back and won several games in a row in the losers bracket to play Kevin Pinkerton in the finals of losers championship. Darrin Hill finished fourth. Overall, this was a great tournament with a good turnout of quality players. It is amazing how good everybody is getting at this great game of cornhole. Some of the players that I have been fortunate enough to watch for about a year now have improved so much that it is exciting to see the possibilities for these guys in the future.
